Lost Chance
Dieser Song beschreibt die vertane Chance, aus zwei Ländern eins
zu machen, indem die Vorzüge beider Gesellschaften zusammengeführt werden. Die anfängliche Euphorie mündet in den ersten Walzer, den man gemeinsam tanzt. Wie in einem Traum, in dem Ost und West wieder zueinander finden. Bald wird jedoch deutlich, dass die Zukunft absolut westlich ausgerichtet ist und die frühere DDR-Bevölkerung sich damit konfrontiert sieht, in der DDR-Zeit angeblich überhaupt kein gutes Leben geführt zu haben. Der Song wird brüchiger, unberechenbarer, er mündet in einer Katerstimmung dieser Wiedervereinigung. – Am deutlichsten zeigt sich die Ignoranz des Westens im Abriss des Palasts der Republik: Was wäre das jetzt für ein wunderbarer Ort, die deutsche Geschichte nachfühlen zu können, man setzt aber eher auf ein Fake-Schloss! This song depicts the lost chance of making two countries one by
interweaving the strengths of both societies. The initial euphoria yields
to the first waltz to be danced together. Like a dream where East and
West find one another. Yet it soon becomes clear that the future is geared entirely to the West and the former GDR population is faced with the presumption that the life they led in the GDR days had no saving graces. The song grows more fragmented, capricious, and culminates in the hangover-mood of this reunification. – The clearest example of the ignorance of the West was the tearing down of the Palace of the Republic: what an incredible place that would have been now to feel the tug of German history, but no, a fake castle was chosen instead!
