The “Palace of Tears” was the name given to the departure hall
for those leaving the GDR for West Berlin. The tears of countless,
individual human beings became a torrent over the years. Washed up
against the Berlin Wall, the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall” that in truth
turned the East of Germany into a prison, those tears eventually led to
a peaceful revolution, and to the Fall of the Wall.
